Memorial Day is....

Observing holidays as actual days of remembrance or reflection was never anything that we did growing up. Holidays were seen as a day off for spending time with family. But is there a deeper meaning for the holidays that we have? Since I didn't really know why I was granted a day off from my day job yesterday, I thought that I would do just a bit of research....

"Memorial Day (May 30), or Decoration Day, began in 1868 when members of the Grand Army of the Republic heeded the request of their commander, General John A. Logan, to decorate the graves of their fallen compatriots. It has since become the day on which the United States honors the dead of all its wars and is observed as a legal holiday in most states. National services are held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington, Virginia. In 2000 President Bill Clinton asked the nation to endorse a humanitarian organization's addition of a moment of silence to the holiday, designating 3 P.M. local time for a minute of quiet reflection on the meaning of America's war dead." (Taken from http://www.answers.com/topic/memorial-day)

Living in Augusta, GA, near Fort Gordon, we often see soldiers and members of the military out and around. I work with wives of soldiers at my real job. Although I've never said "thank you," I do realize and greatly appreciate the sacrifice that they and their families make for me. I learned last week that my friend's husband will be leaving for Iraq soon. He will be leaving his wife and two children to serve for his country. Thank you to all who see it as his or her duty to serve our country.

May we all pray and take a moment of silence everyday to remember those who make sacrifices for us. May God bless you.

Cupcakes! Yumm....

I've been experimenting with cupcake hairbows. I think that so far, things are going well... the pictures below are a few of my newest cupcake creations. I have a few more in the works, I just don't have pics yet, but I'll post these also soon.

This first bow is my Large Cupcake Sweets hairbow. It is a triple layered hairbow. The first layer is raspberry; the second layer is brown with pink dots; and the third layer is cupcake ribbon in raspberry, teal, and brown. The bow is finished with a raspberry knot.

The second bow is a Medium Pink Cupcake Fun Hairbow. This bow has a base bow color of light pink with four kiddie looped ribbon colors of hot pink dot, island blue, pink checks, and lavender. The bow is finished with a pink cupcake embellishment.

I hope that you enjoy these hairbows. I, of course, think that they are adorable and yummy!

April Hairbow Sales Part 2

As I mentioned in my last post, April was a great month for the hairbow business. There will not only be two posts about hair bow sales, but there will be an additional one as well, so you'll have to check back in....

This post will feature items that I shipped to California.

The first hairbow is my Large Ladybug Kiddie Loop hairbow. This bow is made of 1.5 inch grosgrain ribbon with 4 different 3/8 inch ribbons kiddie looped on top. The bow center is a Ladybug embellishment.

The second hairbow is my Large Lilac Satin hairbow. This bow is made of 1.5 inch satin ribbon with a center knot. I think that this bow is so elegant.

The third bow was actually a custom order. These bows were needed for a wedding in London. I actually made 4 bows all the same for two little girls. I can only imagine how cute they were at the wedding!

There will be one more post about my sales from April. Here's a huge thank you to all my wonderful customers!
